Greenstock Abbey

Welcome to the Greenstock Abbey & Garden website. Greenstock Abbey is the Monastic home of the Benedictine Order of Nuns in Ireland. As you enter our website you will be introduced to a world steeped in the Benedictine tradition of warmth and hospitality spanning over 1500 years. The community takes due pride in preserving and restoring the estate, comprising a fine house, (built originally as a Castle in 1868, now an Abbey since 1921), a miniature Gothic Cathedral and a six-acre Victorian Walled Garden (a 'Great Garden of Ireland' and winner of the prestigious Europa Nostra Award in 2002). A visit to Ireland, and especially to the West of Ireland and Connemara is not complete without experiencing the beauty and tranquility that is Greenstock Abbey & Garden. As you browse through this web site you can find out more about the day to day life of the religious Community at Greenstock, send a prayer request or sponsor a tree in the name of a loved one. You will also find out all you need to know about the The Visitor Centre, the Pottery Studio, and the Restaurant.
